Sustainable Groundcover choices for a Changing Environment

TUESDAY January 14, 2025

3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join us for a comprehensive workshop on resilient groundcovers, tailored to a variety of challenging landscape conditions. Led by a seasoned landscape professional with over 35 years of experience in selecting and cultivating plants for New England gardens, this session will offer practical tips, expert plant recommendations, and essential strategies to help you choose the right groundcovers for every site. The presentation will cover:

  • Groundcovers for Sun & Shade: Learn which groundcovers thrive in full sun, part shade, and dense shade, and how to optimize your landscape for aesthetic appeal and low-maintenance care.

  • Soil-Specific Selections: From well-drained, sandy soils to heavier, moisture-retentive soils, discover the best groundcovers for each site type, including those that can withstand drought or occasional inundation.

  • Cape Cod-Specific Plants: Explore groundcover species particularly suited to the unique conditions of Cape Cod, including its coastal soils, salt tolerance, and exposure to wind and salt air. Special attention will be given to plants that support local wildlife and enhance biodiversity.

  • Native and Climate-Resilient Choices: Highlighting a variety of native groundcovers, this session will focus on plants that are naturally adapted to New England’s climate. Learn about species that require minimal water, resist pests, and thrive in local conditions, reducing the need for chemical inputs.

  • Maintenance Tips: Discover techniques for establishing and maintaining groundcovers that require minimal care while still adding texture, color, and ecological benefits to your landscapes.

Whether you're working with sandy coastal soils, shaded woodland areas, or well-drained garden beds, this workshop will equip you with the knowledge to create beautiful, sustainable groundcover plantings for every corner of your landscape.
