Stone, landscape & the future of our industry

Wednesday January 24, 2024

1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Learn how to design and work with stone in the landscape. We will cover the latest trends in both wet and dry applications created to enhance outdoor living spaces. Bringing customers up to speed on modern hardscape options, and creating custom blends to incorporate their choices will be emphasized.  Teaching the next generation of hardscape designers and installers is a priority for Plymouth Quarries - and you'll hear about their experiences.

Derek Stearns
Manager of Sales, Design & Education
Plymouth Quarries
Hingham, MA

As a second-generation stone mason/designer Derek Stearns has been in the industry for more than 30 years. With an education in communications and years of construction under his belt, Derek enjoys focusing on speaking at international trade shows. Seven years and more than 200 episodes on PBS and the DIY Network helped him hone his skills in the TV world of construction. Trained in the old-world school of hand cutting stone with hammers and chisels, he looks forward to projects that call for the full veneer stone that bring him back to his roots of working with his family. Today, at Plymouth Quarries, he is committed to educating the next generation of trades people and has created an internship program with the local Vo-Tech High Schools.
